(yes, I'm back on my soapbox again…)
A while ago, both gg and sofia wrote posts about orgasms - the giving, the getting, the benefits. And seriously? The more I read about Other People's Orgasms (OPO), the more I'm likely to wonder what the heck is wrong with me.
Now, do not misunderstand -- I love orgasms. They are truly a wonderful thing. (Except when they're making me cry, but that's a post for another day…) But I am really not driven by them. Sure, if there's one knocking on the door, I'll be the first to let it in.
I do not turn my back on pleasure, by any means.
But if one's not there, that's okay, too. Because pleasure comes in many forms. I'm also perfectly capable of losing myself in mind-blowingly hot sex, in which I am fully aroused, tuned in/turned on, *libidinally-afire* even…, and yet not thinking about an orgasm. (Or not about my own, at any rate.)
And rarely do I find myself thinking afterwards, "Fine. I'll get my own cookie, then…"
Nope.
Most of the time, I just curl up, muzzily thinking, "oh my god, that was amazing…" and drift off into the sleep of the satiated.
But if I am to believe what I read, not a lot of other people experience lust this way. There's just not much out there about soaring on the incredible high created by sheer sensation -- and simply staying there. Far more often, the focus is on an ending of thrashing, screaming, and squirting -- or the intense frustration when these things have not been achieved.
The play's not the thing, the outcome is.
I could almost feel flawed -- and might, if I minded being wired this way.
But I don't.
Until I read about OPO and that niggling sense of inadequacy rears it's ugly head again.
Sometimes I wonder if we do more harm than good out here…
