*ping!*
"Ran late, back screaming, bone spur on heel killing me."
"aw, sorry!"
*whoop!*
"Even with two ibu, I feel like crap -- rain check?"
"np -- I'd kiss it and make it better... if it weren't your foot... ;-p"
...
... ...
... ... ...
*ping!*
"You would if I told you to"
(Crap! Someday, SOME DAY, I'm gonna get the hang of this D/s thing...!)

Thankfulness
It's been a thoroughly peculiar 12 months, yet the overall picture glows warm and golden.
I find myself particularly thankful this year.
For life,
For bounty,
For friends.
For bounty,
For friends.

Reworking the Liebster
aisha kindly nominated me for a Liebster award (thank you, sunshine!) which actually seems to be one of the more interesting ones to participate in... EXCEPT... it still has that pesky "then you nominate x-number of your favorite blogs" portion. That is the bit that usually trips me up. It feels like publicly ranking your friends and I'm just not taken with that idea. However, I love the part where you get to know more about the person behind the poster.
So here's what I'm gonna do...
You're supposed to post 11 random facts about yourself and answer 11 questions posed by your nominator. These two things, I shall do. Forthwith, in fact.
But I will not be nominating or questioning any 11 bloggers in return.
Rather, I will lob a few questions into the Blogosphere at large, in hopes that someone might feel inspired to respond to one or two.
11 Random Factoids About Me:
1. My ideal job would be to get paid to go to school.
(geek alert!)
2. I've never been drunk or high.
(geek alert #2)
3. My first word was "pretty"
(Screw this "mama" and "dada" stuff, nice job on those curtains, mom!)
4. I cannot knit to save my soul.
I have tried -- friends staged an intervention...
5. My hair looks best in high humidity.
(Men won't get that, but women will!)
6. I have ridden an elephant but never a horse.
7. I usually have at least 3 books going at one time.
8. I don't like pools -- chlorine's vile and the water's always too warm.
(74's about my limit...)
9. I don't care -- I like fluffernutters.
10. I have a favorite hammer - and I'm pretty territorial about it.
11. I would love to take up tap dancing again.
Answering aisha's 11 Questions:
1. Who was your most important role model?
Easy. My mom.
I'm still trying to become half the gracious lady she was.
2. What’s your favorite meal?
That truly depends on my mood.
Might be pad thai, lasagna, riz ba djeji, meatloaf and mashed potatoes ... I just can't say. :-)
3. What one food would you NEVER eat?
Quite honestly, I was brought up to eat whatever you're served, no matter how unappealing, so there really isn't much I can't gag down if politeness requires. Having said that, however, if you pull a Temple of Doom on me and serve bugs and eyeballs, I'll probably be saying no... (or, "NO!")
4. What do you like best about being kinky?
The lack of a lack.
There's nothing missing this way.
5. Do you have a hobby? What is it?
I'm too busy reading, writing, and not-knitting to have a hobby...
6. Is there a sexual position you haven’t tried that you’d like to?
Undoubtedly, but at this very moment, I can't think what it would be.
7. When was the last time you danced with someone?
ummm... 18 months ago.
wait... do you mean, like, "with touching"? ... phfffft! years.
8. Were you in a clique in high school? Which one?
Not a clique -- I had a group of friends, but all of us had a LOT of spillover into other groups, sometimes overlapping, sometimes not. However, it did just happen that every single one of that first "group" of friends was one of the top eight students in the class. So there may have been those who called us "the smart kids"...
9. If you could live in any time era, which one would you pick, and why?
I'm too fond of indoor plumbing to go too far back. But if I could hide a bathroom in the TARDIS, I think I'd choose the Renaissance. (Preferably Florentine or Elizabethan.)
10. Do you prefer giving or receiving oral sex? Why?
I actually spent most of my adult life not caring much for either.
However, BG not only cured me of my aversion to blow jobs, he actually made me love the giving. And I'm more than happy to leave it at that. Receiving is not really my thing. (You can't see me, but I just shuddered slightly...)
11. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Exotic tho' many places sound, I think the place where I've felt I could be the happiest is in the San Juan Islands.
And finally,
My Questions For The World At Large:
What is the nicest thing anyone's ever said to you?
What do you imagine your Patronus as being?
(And what do you suspect it might actually be?)
One word that describes your flavor of kink...?
Please tell me all about you - in eight words or less.
What do you wish you'd known ten years earlier?
So here's what I'm gonna do...

Limits and Pleasing
I had a hypothetical encounter with a hard limit a while back and it has really provoked an internal dialogue that just won't die...
SP made the comment that someday he'd love to get an opportunity to Dom me, to see if I could respond to his style of dominance, which is much more psychological and "tyrannical" (his word!) than BG's use of pain.
Well, I pretty much already know the answer to that. I would follow happily up to a point, and then things would come to a screeching halt. He and I have discussed the reasons, I don't need to get into them here, but the conversation set me off on a train (vicious circle?) of thought.
Even having to say "I couldn't" about an imaginary situation with a Dom who isn't actually mine (despite it all,) made me feel awful. Complete submissive failure, bring on the hair shirt...
I don't WANT to let my dom down, I want to please, at all times, in all ways.
You know, The Little Submissive Who Could... (Or Wants to Think So, Anyhow)
And yet, strong tho' that desire is, I have an even stronger belief that limits really do exist. I genuinely believe I have the right and responsibility to take care of myself, even in a submissive situation. So if there's something that I know is honestly, truly going to cause a me problem, I must say so, even at the risk of disappointing my dominant.
Now, I'm not saying I have the right to be recalcitrant on general principles. If we hit a limit, I have an obligation to do my very best to make it past that. If I still balk, then hopefully my dom can navigate a different way around the obstacle to arrive at the desired goal. Physically, that's usually possible. But it's not so easy when the obstacle is psychological -- which means there will still be situations where I'm simply stuck at "I can't..."
This is where that vicious circle starts for me. Not because I wonder, "What do you do then?" -- that can't be answered, as it varies completely with situation and couple. No, where I'm still at a loss is on how to reconcile my belief in my right to safeguard myself with the guilt of doing so.
Because knowing and believing still don't cancel guilt out...

Life and Lurkers
I'm trying to get back here, I promise!
There's just one little problem...
So consider this more of a placeholder, but I wanted to stop in to wave, since it's...
I'm too brain dead to think of any engaging questions to try and draw you out so you'll comment.
Just know that I know you're there -- and I'm glad of it.
(And don't give up on me. I have every intention of returning soon.)
Love ya!
