In Truth...

I would have liked to have seen this:

Middle 'o' the Week

There are several people where I work who inevitably use, “Happy Hump Day!” as a greeting on Wednesdays. Unhappily, none of them are good enough friends for me to say,
“And yet… no one’s humping…”

But I always think it.
Or something very like it.

Waxing Philosophical

This has happened, with both friends and lovers,
and it really does give me faith in something...
even if I can’t name exactly what.
Maybe just life.

Help Me to Understand

Absurd tho’ this is simply on general principle,
the fact that they come in pink and blue is what really put me over the edge.

Job Swap Opportunity

After this past week?
I’ll happily trade jobs with that cat.

It can fix the machines…
I’ll just lounge around in sunny spots, being fed by others.

An idea whose time has come!!

Dandelion Seeds

I don’t always believe this, during every day of my life…
But as a general rule, I swear by it.

Library / Preferences

Thelma and I indulged in a rousing book discussion the other day. She and I tend toward different genres of books, but we pretty much agree as to what we like in our reading.

We like series, so you can make friends with the characters and follow their adventures.
We like books where the protagonist (and hopefully at least one other) is likeable.
Naturally, we are both picky about spelling and grammar.
Neither of us like books that make the reader guess the ending.
"You’re writing the danged book, you tell me how it ends!"

And finally, we both like our books to be reasonably uplifting. We don't necessarily require a happy ending, per se, but we don't want grim, dystopian, and unpleasant, either. We want our books to leave us feeling better than they found us.

Basically, we want this from our reading:

How about you guys?

Flexibility

There I was, being entertained by one of my sweet elderly friend’s great-granddaughters, who felt that the wide open spaces of the fellowship hall made the perfect venue for a demonstration of her gymnastic flexibility.  And I sighed.

Because my days of being Gumby are so far behind me, they feel like a dream. This “old and fat and vertiginous” thing has wreaked havoc on my flexibility. It’s true that my chiropractor reassures me that “tight” for me is “normal” for others… but it’s poor comfort, since we both know that’s not the point.

Instead, I feel the ghost of my little Finnish grandmother (the one who could not only touch her toes but actually flatten her palms onto the floor, right up until the day she died - at age 80) hovering beside me, demonstrating how it should be done…, while exuding {fond} disdain.

And really, there is no reason for it.
I know from Grandma’s example that age is no excuse, and I know that weight isn’t, either. I’ve been close to this weight before, with a flexibility of about six-fold.

Nor is it like you need a lot of equipment to just plunk down on the floor and stretch and yet, here my pudgy, un-flexible self sits, sighing - yet relishing an un-spinning world.

I console myself with the fact that there’s more than one way of being flexible.
(And that maybe, flexibility isn’t always the answer…  ;-p)

Can I Get an Amen...?

I decided that during February, Spock Sundays will morph into Star Trek Sundays.
(Heck, we're moving that way anyhow!)

Seems to me there's no better way to start than with this:

I'd never say that about the original Bones, but this one?
Whoa, baby!

This May Not Actually Be True...

…but I promise you, it feels true a good chunk of the time!

(Altho’ to my way of thinking, the truly smart woman ends up with a dog! ;-p)

A Hair's Breadth

This could not get much farther from my life,
but if Dolly says it, it must be true!
