Well, my winter torpor has passed off and somehow, without any prior intent, the return of daylight and energy has landed me face down in another big project in my house. Unlike the Worlds Longest Bathroom Renovation, this project does not rely on anyone else (well, an occasional helping hand to move heavy items, but ‘most everything is now where it will stay until it’s time to put the room back together), meaning that the pace is determined purely by my enthusiasm and/or determination. Which, at the moment, is/are pretty high.
Sadly, this doesn’t mix well with my intentions to blog more often. I do a chunk of work, then give myself a break and sit down to attempt to compose a post, only to find myself googling, “restoring hardwood floors” or “dismantling curio cabinets” or “latex paint over oil-based stain”… and there I go, down the renovation rabbit hole!
Some of this single-mindedness is because I enjoy the feeling of pleasant productivity but some of it is simply because I need this project finished in a couple of months… because I have to sail into painting the exterior of my house this summer. (*blergh* ) I let the bathroom project take top priority last summer and am now reaping the rewards of that negligence. (It’s kind of amazing how quickly a house can start to look run-down.) So, action must be taken.
It’s also amazing how much more of my time this crap sucks up as I move gently through the years. (*ahem*) My body is less resilient, my speed is somewhat diminished. The spirit is willing and the flesh does its best - however comma but…
I have not given up on Blogland, friends, but I also haven’t yet managed the appropriate adaptations that will let me get done All The Things and still have time for posts that are more than fluffy little bits of someone else’s work. I’m trying to figure it out, I promise.
In the meantime, I do have a plan:

It is nearly time for our annual "house wash" and this year the deck needs repainting (again). A kitchen upgrade and a bathroom remodel are both on the "needs done" list but since they also "needs funds" it's one small thing at a time and I feel like my house is in a constant state of fluctuating chaos.
And my bones are creaky, which means less get-it-done-quick and more let's-do-it-later. *laugh*
So I feel you.
And YES, coffee.
My kitchen ceiling needed painting. I've now decided it doesn't look that bad. The area beneath my bin chute is also peeling and needs a new coat of paint.. and BIKSS has offered to make arrangements to help me with that but I'm not even bothered about it. It'll happen when it happens I suppose. (I'm NOT usually so calm about non-existent timelines...)
As I grow older the things that NEED doing stay in my head for shorter and shorter periods of time. After a bit they don't seem to be AS urgent anymore. And I sure as hell am not inclined to do any of it myself. I am reminded of how prudent this is just now as I have a pulled back muscle from bending over to cut my toenails. Yup.
I love it! Keep trucking along and it will all fall into place. The renovations will eventually be complete and blogland will be filled again with more posts. It's all good!

When these chores call, i sometimes wonder if it wouldn't be better to rent and make someone else worry about it. Then, renting. Ugh.
You'll figure it out.
Hi Jz - Baker seems to have the right thoughts ... it'll all happen eventually - but I too need to get on with life and things ... but I carry on blogging - though I need to reverse the order! Good luck - glad things are coming together though and at least the bathroom is done. Stay safe ... all the best - Hilary
Feve,
My head is nodding along with you like a bouncing red ball.
:-D

Some things will eventually reach the point where you can no longer ignore them, unhappily.
That is where this particular project stems from… sheer fedupitude!

Since that’s really about all a person can do… I’ll take that advice, thank you!

Oh yes, that thought crosses my mind sometimes. And then I think about the reality and shake my head at my little dream…

I think there are a few of us in this boat at the moment…
Thank you for the good wishes!
Coffee is never to be underestimated. And I'm ashamed to say, when I'm struggling with my writing... neither is bourbon. To be underestimated.

Never got the taste for alcohol, so I'll take your word for it.
(I self-medicate with food. ;-p)
