lindy thomas wants to know:
If you could live anywhere in the world where would you go?
It’s funny but my answer to this seems to change almost every time somebody asks me.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about Jerome, Arizona.
The problem with picking a new place to live, of course, is that it’s difficult to make a decision without actually doing a test run. I love Jerome. It’s fun, funky, and I think I could be very, very comfortable there. It certainly calls to my inner bohemian. But Jerome is a little town in a part of our country where it’s not unusual to have to drive for hours to get to the nearest anything.
I’m used to, indeed prefer, a small town setting, so that part’s not a problem. I like open spaces and plenty of room between me and other people, so that works as well. Nonetheless, day trips to either Boston or NYC are completely feasible from where I live, and while I don’t often go, it’s still nice to know I can if I want to - on the spur of the moment, even. And there's no water nearby... So I’m not entirely certain that I’m not living in cloud cuckooland when my finger lands on Jerome.
But still…

I can now say, I have heard of Jerome Arizona :-)
A small town that is too far from anything bigger would probably make me stir-crazy.
Thank you for answering my question Jz. Jerome sure looks like a nice place but yes so isolate. Love the way you say it would satisfy your inner bohemian, I like wise have an inner bohemian. LOL! Maybe best just to go there for holidays and stay in your current place closer to things. Or you can dream of all these wonderful places.
Hugs Lindy xx
Jerome, Arizona. That's pretty fascinating. Of course I think you would miss the water, but what do I know. And the pictures are gorgeous. Very cool - and somehow surprising. In that Jz way of being surprising, where after I'm surprised, I'm like, "oh, but of course it would be Jerome, Arizona..."

It might well do the same for me... but the daily charms might also suffice.
I hate cities, it's only the things within cities that I might miss.
It's hard to say without an immersive experience.
Besides, this is all dreamland anyhow. ;-)

Inner bohemians need their comfort, too!
It may have just appealed because it felt so peaceful - hard to say.
Moot point anyhow. But fun to think about!
Thank you for the question!

I was a bit surprised myself - but it really has been occupying space in my thoughts lately, even before the question.

its interesting for me to look at but i would probably die in anything that was NOT a city.

I suspect most city-dwellers feel that way. My ten years in a big city was enough for me, tho'.
Now I limit myself to very short visits. :-)
City dweller here. I definitely agree that for me I wouldn't be comfortable living in a rural area. I have a job in a very rural area and it surprises everyone that I won't live outside of a city, or at least a large town!
The southwest is so beautiful in its landscape. It seems like it is out of this world to me; like looking at Mars sometimes!

Crowds make me want to scream. I'm definitely not one who gets her energy from people...
Yes, it really is a gorgeous part of the world. I could look at it for a very long time, I think...
Some Jerome things to be considered before moving there:
1) Town politics somewhat to the right of Hitler in a biker-ish way.
2) Enormous drug problem for such a small place. The majority of people who moved there because they were going to be hugely creative in that beautiful environment found out that they still are as untalented as before they moved. They compensate by excessive consumption of alcohol and other drugs.
3) The records of a recent town council meeting stated that the meeting had been delayed for half an hour. A huge rattler had settled in on the threshold of the meeting room porch and had to be removed prior to proceedings.
All 3 typical for the wild west for these 150 years. Only the last has a certain rustic charm to it.

Thank you for providing a sound reason for giving a different again next time I'm asked this question. I might be able to handle #1 and #3 is inevitable, but you know me well enough to know I am not at all enchanted by the lure of chemicals - or by anyone who is susceptible...
These pictures of Jerome make me think it'll be a perfect place for a writing retreat--going into dream mode right after I finish typing this comment.
I've just read your Florence post, so all my dreams are tumbling forth and putting their hands up in the air and shouting--pick me. pick me.

You're right, it would be a great place for that.
I'll keep my eyes peeled and let you know if I see anything!
