In a memorable phrase from “Artemis Fowl”, Foaly reassures Commander Root, “It's like learning to ride a unicorn. You never forget.” ... Of course, this is sci-fi fantasy but none the less, it got me thinking about unicorns… and I have to tell you, I don’t think I’d just hop up on the back of one of them. I mean, what do we really know about how safe it would be to ride a unicorn? You never see pictures of anyone astride one. I’d be asking questions first, I tell you!
In fact, I have a lot of questions about unicorns.
For one thing, when did they morph from this:
to this:?
How did the dignified beast of myth come to be portrayed as aberrant form of puppy?
(Do unicorn puppies piddle in all colors of the rainbow?)
What persuaded unicorns to move to the Forbidden Forest?
…And how on earth did a recuperating, "I'm hiding my disembodied self under a turban on the back of this weenie's head" Voldemort manage to overpower one?
Why is unicorn fudge made in garish, unnatural colors when a unicorn is pure white?
Are we certain unicorns even like fudge?
And for the love of God...
can somebody please help me understand what is up with a Unicorn Frappucino?!?
Important as matters of appearance, locale, and questionable marketing may be, however, the question about unicorns that plagues me the most is this:
In medieval times, a unicorn was often seen as holy thing... a representation of Christ, in fact.
Nowadays, I am reliably informed, “unicorn” is slang for "that rare find - a bisexual third party willing to join an existing couple in bed with no expectations or emotional strings attached."
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!?

Great, now these questions will bug me all day. :)
Hi Jz - I think I'll stick with my Unicorn ... yours morph too easily! Those questions I couldn't answer, let alone ask ...and some of my thoughts would lead into never never land - wherever that is ...?! Nope - your world is moving way too fast for little me ... cheers and yes great minds think alike ... Hilary

Somehow the rumor got started that unicorns poop rainbows. So everything "unicorn" that has rainbow colors is really representing unicorn poop.
Unicorn got to be the term for a bisexual third person (female only) because so many couples are looking for that exact person compared to the numbers of women who want NSA sex with a couple that they might as well be hunting unicorns (rare to mythical beast).
LOL!
Yeah, I do wonder how the unicorns feel about all the appropriation.
There's a really excellent treatise on the Unicorn that i read years ago, and now i'm going to go dig it up and read it again. They are supposed to be majestic creatures, at least to me, not cartoons.
Good questions, Jz...would love to know the answers. I'll take the majestic, white unicorn but you can have the cutsie, glitter pooping aberration along with all the garish "unicorn" products. :)
Hugs and blessings...Cat

I do undertstand - it’s an easy rabbit hole to fall into.
Sometimes I’m sorry I didn’t watch my own footing better. :-D

Yeah… the definition I initially read said female only, but then I found more several others that said, “usually but not necessarily female”, so I opted for the more inclusive.
Didn’t want to attract any unicorn-hate, don’cha know?

They probably want to impale us on their horns…

I know I’m getting old but all that glittery goop is really just too fourth grade for words.
*plunks down in rocking chair and yells at kid to get off her lawn*
What??? Really? Is that what unicorn means in slang? I'm learning so much these days, thanks to this challenge:)
I'm gonna impress my twenty year old daughter with my knowledge of slang when I see her next.
Ewww Mom! she may throw this at me...But at least I'll feel I'm not completely out of it.
Cheers for the chuckles...that morph bit got me laughing..Ha! Ha!

I'm not sure it's common-knowledge slang... I hadn't heard it until I went down a google rabbit hole... so maybe test the waters with your daughter first...? ;-D
Glad you chuckled, sunshine!
Great images of Unicorns!
